This exceptionally rare 19th-century color lithograph represents La Beata Vergine detta della Colonna — The Blessed Virgin of Casa Colonna — one of Raphael’s most celebrated devotional compositions. Printed with plate impression and expertly hand-finished, the work reveals remarkable finesse in the gradation of tones and in the rendering of the Virgin’s serene, luminous expression.
The lower margin bears full production details, including the collaboration of notable 19th-century artisans: the drawing by Riepenaufen, the engraving by Luigi Barocci (1800–1850) — a respected figure of early lithographic art — and the printing and retouching by P.V.E. Editions. Together, they created a finely crafted interpretation of Raphael’s masterpiece, dating to approximately 1827, at a time when lithography was emerging as an important artistic medium.
The work is beautifully presented in a gold frame with rounded corners, complete with protective glass. The frame enhances the sacred warmth of the composition while preserving its antique character.
