An Exquisite Matching Pair — Mid-Century Italian Studio Art (1950s) A rare and exquisite matching pair (pendant) of Mid-Century oil paintings on canvas-covered cardboard, complete with their original, stunning gilded wooden frames. Discovered in Italy (Parma area) and dating back to the 1950s, these pieces are a magnificent example of post-war European decorative studio art.

Both artworks are signed "Miriam" in an elegant, raised golden script.

THE SUBJECTS

· The paintings depict highly atmospheric, Romantic-style landscapes inspired by Northern European countryside views:

· One features a picturesque antique watermill next to a stone arch bridge

· The other shows a dirt path leading towards rustic cottages perched atop a rugged rocky cliff

PROVENANCE & STYLE

While sourced in Italy (Parma area), the subjects clearly draw on the great tradition of Northern European Romantic landscape painting — evoking the bucolic atmospheres of English cottages and the watermills of French or Flemish countryside. The "Miriam" signature and the superb craftsmanship of the gilded frames testify to the refined taste of Italian art workshops of the 1950s, capable of reinterpreting European classics with exceptional material technique.

TEXTURE & CONDITION

· Texture & Patina: The oil colors are wonderfully aged, thick, and "petrified" by time. The brushwork features beautiful raised textures (impasto), particularly visible in the glowing highlights on the river streams and foliage, giving the scenes a vibrant three-dimensional quality. The original vintage patina is rich and warm

· Condition & Integrity: Excellent vintage condition. A major plus for collectors: the backs of the frames remain completely original and sealed, never opened or altered since the 1950s. The gold-leafed frames show a gorgeous, authentic age-wear, with the traditional red bole undertone subtly peeking through the gilding
