A charming and unusually rare vintage Murano glass Dalmatian dog, beautifully handcrafted in the traditional sommerso technique. The sculpture features a striking white glass body covered with irregular black spots, creating the unmistakable appearance of a Dalmatian. The substantial form, elegant proportions and highly polished surface give the piece a wonderful presence as a collectible work of Italian art glass.
The black spots are three-dimensional elements suspended and encased within the glass body, rather than simply painted onto the surface. This gives the decoration exceptional depth and a fascinating optical effect as the light passes through the glass. Particularly beautiful are the transparent areas around the head and ears, where the clear glass reveals a very subtle warm yellow-golden tone, barely perceptible but adding character and warmth to the sculpture. This distinctive coloration is consistent with the sophisticated glassmaking effects found in mid-century Murano production.
The exact production date is not documented, but the materials, style, coloration and craftsmanship are consistent with Murano glass production of the 1960s–1970s. The Dalmatian is also a comparatively uncommon subject in vintage Murano glass, making this an especially appealing piece for collectors of Italian art glass and animal sculptures.
