A Rare Japanese Music Box — Mother of Pearl & Abalone, 1950s A charming vintage musical jewelry box from the mid-20th century (circa 1950s/1960s), of refined Japanese manufacture. The wooden structure is entirely covered with a splendid geometric mosaic veneer in genuine natural mother of pearl, enriched on the lid with iridescent abalone shell inserts reflecting green, pink, and blue.
Upon opening, the lid reveals an integrated mirror and an interior lined in luxurious original cardinal red velvet, divided into two compartments (one of which protects the musical mechanism). The rear hinge is a high-quality element: robust, with a long insert, and made of chromed brass.
The Japanese-made musical movement works perfectly, delivering a smooth and clear rendition of the famous melody "Swan Lake" by Tchaikovsky, which activates automatically upon opening.
