A rare and deeply intimate painting, documenting the final stylistic phase of Danilo Gardani before his passing in 1992.
The work departs from the figurative dynamics of his early period to enter a purely spiritual dimension. The central figure, reclined in a posture of solemn meditation, is suspended before a wall of gold leaf and vibrant chromatic tiles.
Within the proud architecture of the profile and the deep, downward-cast gaze, one senses — beneath the guise of old age — an intimate and secret synthesis of the artist's own persona. In that face, weary and marked by time, painted by a young artist, one may perhaps read the presentiment of a destiny he already carried within himself.
